Several articles in FCS have already discussed the hardships you encounter when looking for a job. Economic recession, job lay-offs and stiff competition have become old news for a lot of us, and many Americans today are resigned to being unemployed for a long while. However, financial journalist Vera Gibbons explained that despite the current unemployment trend, jobs are still out there. It’s just a matter of knowing where to find them.
According to Gibbons, the professional and service sectors will still remain the two largest industries in the economy for the next ten years or so. For instance, education is still one of the most recession-proof industries in the country to date. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics projected that 38,000 post-secondary jobs will be created this year to cater to a steady influx of students year after year. Health care also remains strong. According to Gibbons, more and more people - particularly the elderly - are looking for health care professionals for the treatment of their ailments or just to help them be fit and healthy. Demand for these professionals are so high, the health care industry is expected to generate around three million jobs between 2006 and 2016.
You might be surprised that the financial service sector also offers great job opportunities. Roughly 77 million retiring baby boomers across the country are looking for professional help in managing their money, or in helping them put make wise choices about their pension, retirement pay, or other financial benefits they're receiving. Aside from getting medical service from the health care industry, boomers need these analysts and specialists to keep them financially secure, especially with the rising prices of basic commodities.
