Ticket To Work Program: Government Money and Jobs For the Disabled

Being disabled doesn’t mean you need to stop dreaming about having a good career.  Sometimes, all you need is the Ticket - The Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program.

The Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program is a part of the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act, which was launched in 1999 to provide broader career opportunities and employment choices to disabled Americans.  This program serves individuals with disabilities by helping them get a job, join a vocational rehabilitation (VR) program, or obtain other support services from both public and private providers, employers, and social organizations.

The Ticket, a red, white and blue document, is issued by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to Social Security disability beneficiaries who need help in returning to work or getting a head start on their career.  The Ticket can be offered to Employment Networks (ENs) who can offer quality career placement services without any cost.  ENs’ services are paid by the SSA if you assign your ticket to a participating provider.

Take advantage of this state-sponsored program by signing up at FreeCareerSearch!

You can also use the Ticket to avail of services from state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agency to help you secure employment despite your disability.  VRs and ENs have been active in coordinating job searchers and telecommuting career opportunities, especially to the blind and visually-impaired. Aside from helping you reach the career you’ve been dreaming of, job trainings, healthcare benefits, and career planning are included in the Ticket program. This is extremely timely, since disabilities are not exclusive to a minority of Americans.  The number of disabled individuals all over the country is over 50 million, which comprises 20 percent of the population.
