A Good Career Move: Work at Home

Countries all over the world, including the United States, are suffering from the continual increase of oil prices.  Using your own car therefore, has become a burden rather than convenience, due to the high price of gasoline which has reached a new record price of $4.05 per gallon.  This might be why more and more people are choosing to have a home-based career rather than the usual 8 to 5 job in the office.

Home-based careers can help you save by keeping your paycheck in your pockets rather than spending it for your gas tanks.  Aside from the possibility of lessening your monthly expenses, starting a home-based career is relatively easy.  If you have an ample workspace with a computer, a stable Internet connection, and a positive outlook, you can easily carry out jobs at home in the same way inside the office.

Aside from the convenience brought by these home-based careers, some of them offer higher-than-average hourly wages and continued growth.  The U.S. Labor and Statistics identified 10 careers of the new millennium, majority of which are computer-related and can be done at home.

Check out the rising home-based careers listed below.  Maybe one of them is the right career for you!

·         Administrative Service Manager / Assistant

Administrative service managers or assistants coordinate and direct support services to ensure efficient operation within an organization or company.  Their clients range from private companies to hospitals or law firms.  Large employers delegate responsibilities that involve telecommunicating multiple locations and subjects to administrative service managers or assistants.  This career, as a result, gives an option for administrative service manager and assistants to work at home.

This career is projected to grow 12 percent from 2006-2016, earning a higher median salary (compared to other careers) of $67,690. Earning a bachelor or associate degree in business can give you an edge in applying for this job, since you’ll learn the necessary managerial skills in overseeing operations in a company.

·         Computer Analyst / Software Publisher / Web Developer

IT is continuously expanding because of our reliance in technology.  It also resulted to the emergence of new careers in IT such as computer system analysis, database administration, network analysis, computer software engineering and design. These professionals design, install, maintain, and develop computer systems that we use both at home and at work.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projected the growth of this industry and expected 489,000 jobs to be created from 2006 to 2016.  Since computers are in use in almost all operations in various companies and industries, you will need a good academic background in IT.  You can get bachelor’s degree in IT from vocational schools, colleges, or even online.  Once you’ve earned your degree, you can get commanding salaries ranging from $91,000 to as high as $200,000.

·         Medical Transcriptionist

The advances in medical technology created a new class of health care professionals. This new breed of professionals in the field of medicine includes medical transcriptionists who are in charge of updating researches conducted by doctors and other medical experts.  They transcribe observations of doctors and turn them into medical reports, communications, and other administrative material that can be used as reliable references for medical studies.

The job outlook for medical transcriptionists is promising.  In 2016, the healthcare industry is expecting 112,000 medical transcriptionists to keep up with the development of medical technology.  Just like other healthcare professionals, medical transcriptionists earn a reasonably higher median earning ranging from $28,837 - 33,318.  To become one, you just need to complete a postsecondary training in medical transcription offered by vocational schools, colleges, or online courses.

·
Artists, Writers, Editors

Artists can be found in different sectors including craft art, fine art, multimedia, animation, and graphic design. Since the IT industry is considered as one of the hottest careers to date, multimedia and website artists are in demand.  These Internet-related careers are also identified as online media careers which involve specialization of websites, data processing, web search portals, etc.

Since companies see the Internet as one of the most effective advertising tools nowadays, they invest on web artists and writers to effectively showcase their products or services in the cyber world and reach a larger number of consumers. These techie artists and writers earn as much as $120,000 just with the creation of a website.

Take advantage of these hot careers!  Working at home can certainly help you save your mon especially with the soaring gas prices.  You can also enjoy more benefits and higher monthly salary compared to traditional jobs.

So take an online course inIT, medical transcription, digital design, or in business!  Have a bright and promising career right within the comfort of your home!
